Clooney is an interesting case study for A-List. You reflexively say he is but he doesn't have huge box office.

Part of that is due to the choices he makes. The American for example wasn't a huge grosser but I would argue that with almost any other actor in the lead besides Clooney it may have bee relegated to being a festival/arthouse film that would have been lucky to make $5M in the US.
