viewers shouldn't need to do that. I've watched other dark-scened shows and movies that were better.

amazon reviews for the last release had a lot of mentions of the particularly bad quality of the transfer for the hp films. some people think warner brothers did it on purpose to push blu-ray.
I don't know that I'd go that far, but the suckiness was notable.
