LYC: More detailed version written by my wife on her mom's Liberation Therapy (MS treatment). Long story short: improving every day

The biggest concern we all had was that my Mom would get there and would find out she was not a candidate for the procedure, however, the vascular surgeon told her she was the "text book" case. Both sides were significantly blocked. They actually recorded the whole procedure and gave my parents a DVD. My Mom said she and Dad watched the line (or whatever it's called) go up her veins (he went in through her groin) and reach her neck and let out a little poof of dye. For comparative purposes, the vein went from the size of a piece of spaghetti to the size of a hair and the dye barely trickled through to the other side of the narrowing. Then the surgeon inflated a balloon and the blood started rushing right through. Mom had been given something to keep her relaxed and kind of dozing, and when the blood started to rush through the first vein, she felt a sharp pain - which brought her to, then she said she immediately felt this overall sensation of just feeling really good. The surgeon did not use stents?? - he preferred not to unless there is something wrong structurally with the vein (like a tear) - he just used the balloon and said that if the vein does not narrow again within the next two years, it probably won't. So she has to go to Bangor (closest place with the equipment sophisticated enough - boo hoo for her) for checkups every few months. She is on major blood thinners and was told not to even attempt to shave her legs for at least 6 weeks in case of a knick. After the procedure she had to lay completely flat for a day - which was fine with her because she was totally exhausted. Now that she is back and getting more rest she is noticing some little things that is quite exciting, but she doesn't want to get too excited in case it is just a coincidence, but I think she needs to celebrate every little thing. My Mom's feet are really sensitive to hot and cold, so when she gets out of the shower, her toes curl almost into a claw and she can't walk - I painted her toe nails for her a couple of weeks ago and the ends of her poor little toes are terribly caloused. Well on Saturday when she showered, her toes didn't do that for the first time in years. She now has feeling in her feet and she says she just has an overall feeling of feeling terrific. I think if there was that little oxygen getting around her body, then she would definitely feel better now.
