Stupid internet access question

If I get internet access through ATT, is it just a phone line that I plug into my computer, or is additional hardware involved?

You need to be sure you have an old style analog modem in your PC. Newer computers may not even have one.\

Broadband needs a DSL moden from At&t. Dial up, just plug the phone line into the modem on your comp. -- nm

DSL is a phone line connected to a DSL modem (supplied by AT&T) which has Ethernet out which you can connect to a router or PC
