Now I'm not even believing you're using the baby as an excuse.

Honestly, you guys have trained him to only be able to sleep in absolute silence. You're always posting stuff like this about some little noise waking him. Hell, put on acid rock and let him put himself to sleep. He's old enough to be able to do it alone. You'll have a lot of crying the first 2-3 nights, but the trick is to not go pick him up, just stand at the door and tell him he's ok, go back to sleep.
During naps, go about your normal business-including normal noise-and he'll adapt quickly, especially if you play music during nap time.
Seriously, you're the parents and you can take this advice or ignore it but once a baby figures out he can manipulate* you at 3-4 months old, your life will be hell until he's about 5.
*manipulate as in using a learned behavior to elicit an expected response from the parental units. Just wait until potty training. bwahahahahahaha
