I don't know if it's bragging, but it's certainly stunning what HydroQuebec has done in northern Quebec.

They've pretty much paved under most of the permafrost in concrete. There's giant dams the likes of which you see in sci-fi movies. The Wiki article mentions that BILLIONS of dollars have been paid to the Cree to keep them from protesting. Heck, what native tribe wouldn't welcome that deal?
I've spoken to people who have worked at these facilities. It takes longer to fly from Montreal to these complexes than to Florida. These places are freaky and massive and ominous and almost non-existent in public awareness.
