buying a condo instead. (my mom turned 70 last year.) Even before my father died they talked about this. And, she has looked but my hometown isn't exactly a mecca of fab condos, you know?
anyway, she called last night, all excited, thinks she found the perfect one, finally. she describes it to me: two levels, 3 large bedrooms + office, 2.5 baths, full eat in kitchen plus dining room. two levels. walk out deck, garage, etc etc. She finishes, and i say 'well, it sounds great, but that doesn't exactly sound like downsizing.' her reply "oh, it's bigger than this place and will probably cost me $50,000 more than i can get for this house, but it's really great.'
please note: this makes absolutely NO sense for her, whatsoever. i'm not worried about her financially, so it's not that, it's just incredibibly illogical and my mother is really very very smart and practical, always.
i think my mother has lost her mind. i really really do.
