Disagree--I thought the finale was pretty damn good except for tnt cheaping out on special effects. My reply to zeitgeist (B2) inside--spoils

Actually, we didn't. The first 2 1/2 eps were character and physical setup, so they were kinda slow. Then it kicked into high gear (spoils)

I love the little things in it: the slowly developing love between Noah Wylie and Moon Bloodgood; Pope doing a "Han Solo"; Ben figuring out the radio thingy; and the previous glimpses of the tall skinny grey beings who suddenly turned into a major cliff hanger.
My biggest problem with both hours of the finale was too much talk talk, talk. Why not show us the battles? No, we had to hear about them from others. Even the biggest battle at the end, we had to see the aftermath through Noah Wylie's eyes. Wil Patton all beat up and crazy looking like Nick Nolte's mug shot with only 10 soldiers left out of 50? I wanted to see the fight. I guess they blew their special effects budget on Wylie blowing up the little ship which in turn started to bring the base down.
One thing that really bugged, when the Mechs came to investigate the school, they probably fired 1000 mech bullets at the scout before it went down. Then in the next scene (when everyone is almost out of ammo) the blond chick drops one with a double tap to the head. Hello, why the hell didn't the rest of them do that?
I really liked the homage to Close Encounters at the end. I understand why Wylie agreed to go with the grey dude into the ship, he's an idealist and he believes that once you find a point of commonality with another person/being, then you can negotiate an ending. Personally, I'd shove a mech grenade down his skinny throat. All in all, I thought it was an above average season finale. I guess I'm the exact opposite of you. :)
