actually when anyone of us types a message on one of our firends on facebook pictures it posts the comment and the pic in all your other firends news feeds...all they have to do is click on the pic to see the picture bigger and read the thread. Same goes for writing on friend's walls any of your firends can read the wall-to wall message threads.
