I have finally found that. We freaking play Cribbage for hours and talk while we play. When you find someone you can talk with for hours that is truly a wonderful thing.
You will learn from what you didn't have and look for it. I specifically looked for things in women that I was missing from the past relationships. Like a menu of ranking things I wanted them to have. When they didn't' have the top things I moved on.
That is all for the future. I am all for taking a nice healthy period of time to reflect on you, before you date. You have some growing to do. You now get to DO the things you like to do. You have to learn to be a single man again. That doesn't happen overnight.
My best example is this. I bought milk for my ex because she ate cereal and had a glass of milk a couple times a day. I don't drink milk at all. I was still buying milk and tossing it out for about 8 weeks (I do the shopping as I do the cooking) because it was a habit. I remember the day I was at the store asking myself, WTF are you still buying milk for? Then I bought dried milk for the occasional recipe that calls for milk. Only took me throwing out a few gallons of sour milk and a couple months to figure that one out.
Multiply that example by everything you do. You will rediscover what it is to be Cappy, and not Mr. and Mrs. Cappy.
Then after 6 months (everyone is different on the time) you get to learn how to date again. My first dates were a mess. I was still dating like I had 12 years before my relationship. The women had definitely changed in how you date. My dating had become dated. Disaster dates for the first few months until I figured things out.
Anyway. First things first. You have to grieve and there really isn't anyway around that part. It simply SUCKS! There is a great life on the other side of the suck though. Hang In There!!
