We mostly got lucky with Irene, but the town I drive through every day to work (also where I went to high school) is pretty devastated.

There's a "creek" in the town that insanely overflowed and put the surrounding area several feet underwater. A fuckton of basements flooded and now I'm reading articles that dozens of homes (mostly trailer park-types in the, uh, less-affluent neighborhoods) have been condemned. Along the main route, there's a huge amount of furniture on the sidewalks outside of people's houses, stuff ruined from the flooding. It's pretty sad.
