it was some kind of makeover/lifestyle change show, and the host gave an actual shock (through a bracelet, iirc) to the subject when she didn't act the way they thought she should while attempting to socialize.
she actually jumped and twitched when trying to engage and flirt. it was hilarious and incredibly disturbing all at once. guys are totally attracted to women who look like they're about to have a seizure and/or have tourrette syndrom, right?! doomed to fail.
