what's the end? like, does she think they'll be taking lessons until they're adults, that they'll be pursuing degrees/careers in music?

they've done it for 6 years and aren't enjoying it anymore. in those years, they did learn discipline, and that doesn't have to go away. I'd encourage them to find something else they will actually enjoy instead of dread.
