I'm 5;'10 so people always bought me size L or XL so that's what I would buy for myself as well, but nothing was flattering or even *fit.*

old navy and the gap (please don't die, gap!!) make great basics in tall sizes -- so I scale up and down rather than side to side. in many things I am small tall which is counterintuitive until you put something on and people are like, "whoa! I never knew you had boobs!"
