answer to one of my questions from Yamaha: "A/V receivers cannot convert HDMI inputs to component video output."

"HDMI devices apply digital encryption called high definition content protection (HDCP) to copyrighted material being transferred via HDMI. Analog component cables cannot carry the HDCP encryption layer. Current HDMI standard forbids the conversion of HDMI to any other type of connection."
