a lot more than 50, though there is more than inflation at work here, scale of values etc

I mean in that era there wasn't the range of consumer goods, the economy was based on bartering farm goods for a few trade craft, true rome was probably as sophisticated as new york.

30 pieces of silver would probably get you some really good hookers and crack, which at modern rates would be a couple thousand dollars.
