I understand much of what you're going through and the hardest thing to accept is that

ultimately it's not your problem to solve, and your priority needs to be yourself.
Addiction of any kind is overwhelming and the addictive personality is hard to control. The alcoholic may find sobriety but will replace drinking with something else probably just as damaging.
