my mom goes through rounds of upset and awareness and denial about my stepfather's various issues. it's so tough.
I don't want her to be upset all the time, but staying in reality is important; and when she actively contributes to the ick she knows is wrong, it's just baffling.
I hope something brings a change in your dad for the positive - maybe the next steps with his doctors will make him see making things worse for himself and those around him is not how he wants to spend what's left of his life.
