No, that's what's funny. In doing genealogy you get a real sense that there was no damn privacy.

Newspapers just a hundred years ago published who had letters waiting at the post office, who was visiting who, who had left town for the weekend, which students got which grades, as well as all the details of court cases. Cultural views on privacy in this country have historically been that there are none.
