To open an old discussion... If an actor who had previously starred in a soap then got a juicy role in a hit show, I wouldn't call him an unknown.

I may have known - only tangentially - that Josh Duhamel was on All My Children before starring in Las Vegas, but it was enough for me to not consider him a "relative unknown".
