in my case it'd be a symptom of a larger problem, and in my immediate family's case, unbelivably hypocritical.

there's no way in all of creation my mom or brother would *ever* try this, especially since both of them are in long-term, committed, non-married relationships. my mom and step-father have been together longer than my parents were, and I'd be surprised if there was ever a marriage ceremony there.
