To me, the only issue here is that she didn't tell her guests what she expected. Bottom line...

if you're staying at someone else's place...abide by their rules.
She doesn't have a bed for you? Bring your own air mattress or something else.
The issue for the couple was they couldn't afford a hotel...so I say deal with what you get then.
I don't agree with the rule...but it's not my house.
