i have a question about that - were people actually jumping before the second plane hit?

at that point they could still get up and down, couldn't they? (at least up?)
(thinking about this a second longer, i suppose there would have been some people trapped by fire that couldn't leave their offices, but i really didn't think anyone was jumping that soon.)
i didn't think people started jumping till there was nowhere else to go.

I wish I could find the article I read a few weeks ago, but this explains it too. -- (link)

There were fires that separated the upper floors from the ones beneath.

i guess, i just think my first instinct would be if i couldn't go down, i'd go up before i *jumped out a window* -- nm

If the smoke was bad enough, you might not be able to find "up." Plus, the window is where light and fresh air were. -- nm

I will say that while my stubborness was through the roof, my judgment was quite impaired during the fire.

from the telephoto pictures we saw, it looks like people were driven to the windows by smoke and flames and literally had nowhere to go. -- nm

Remember, Plane 2 hit Building 2. So anyone in Building 1 was already in their situation....
