They go there to be there, and I've never heard a tourist complain.

It's quintessential NY to someone who only knows NY from TV. The shiny lights, the hustle and bustle of all the people (doesn't matter that they are all also tourists, people don't realize that), the big billboards, ABC's glass studio. It's not so much about 'what to do there' it's just about 'wow, we are here'
