Great news! In the past week, more than 10,000 people have signed the petition against Amendment 3 of Senate Bill 540!! WOW! This legislation would extend the EDA tax breaks in Hoffman Estates for another 15 years, taking $200 million in school property taxes from District 300 schools. (Hoffman Estates students do not attend D300 schools, so they would not be hurt by this legislation like D300 kids.) We believe that 23 years has been long enough. The Senate is just days away from making its decision. The time is NOW to stand up for our schools and our community!
Here are FIVE REASONS for all students, staff, and community members to attend the District 300 Rally tomorrow evening (THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13) at Jacobs High School:
(1) To learn more and get more information.
(2) To help stop 15 more years of D300 layoffs and program cuts.
(3) To stand up for schools.
(4) To hear a big announcement about our next steps in the urgent fight against Amendment 3 of Senate Bill 540.
(5) To ask the politicians to find a WIN-WIN for Sears, students, and taxpayers!!
We want Sears to stay in Illinois. But we truly believe that a different plan is needed that more EQUITABLY provides Sears with incentives to stay here. If this is truly a state-level issue as the state politicians are telling us, then the ENTIRE state needs to collectively own the solution instead of putting it on the backs of one community OUR community!
Please stand up with me Thursday night to defend your children and our community. Demonstrations will begin at 5:30 p.m. The program will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. We want to end the program on time since our students have final exams the next day. Thank you.
D300 Superintendent Michael Bregy
