If the government is comfortable bailing them out in the first place, I cannot see being upset about them conducting normal business operations.

I'm not too fussy on the bailout as a whole, but wouldn't shorting the dividends greatly affect mutual fund holdings and other investment? -- nm

if they're doing so poorly that they need a bailout, they shouldn't be hemmorhaging cash through paying out dividends, should they? -- nm
