Kerry's a liberal; Romney had to come left to win there.

The GOP is facing a shitty economy and they have a guy who's pretty good at understanding economics and business, aka 1 of the 3 main tenets of the modern GOP.

the Dems in 2004 thought they could win on another main GOP tenet (the military) but they couldn't get it done.

The GOP is playing on it's home court with a quality contender, Kerry was playing on Bush's court as a mediocre contender.
