...I've read enough heart-wrenching tragedies of children in foster care. I've seen enough commercials and pleas for children in foster to get them new shoes or winter jackets or toys for Christmas. I do what I can, but here, I can make a real difference.

There's potential for a real dark side. I don't know the situation with the parents. I don't know if it's drugs or jail or what. I don't know if they'll ever come back for the kid or if we'll get to adopt. I don't know if they'll show up at our door in the middle of the night with a gun. But I think the odds are slim of something violent happening. The worst is that one day we'll have to give up the girl and get our hearts broken, and if that's the price we pay for having given a child a happy, warm, loving home, then it's a small price to pay.
