Granted, I didn't have own a house, nor would I have collected the top allowable amount, but it did require me to move to a cheaper apartment, cut down on my expenses, and Top Ramen and Mac & Cheese became the meal of choice for a while. And while I didn't "like" it I did it because it was the right thing to do.
Yes, losing a job sucks, and can be excruciatingly hard. And yes, the government should help in times of need. But for over a year, over two, or three? Should the government (society) be responsible for maintaining someone's exact standard of living indefinitely? I honestly don't think it is.
