The less you can afford to pay the harder it is to find a place since there aren't nearly as many on the market.

If you can pay $1600 and up you'll find plenty of nice places. It's the apartments from $1300 and under that are hard to find on your own without being patient. I've moved a bunch over the last 10 years and I've been able to find a place within three or four months. But four months is a long time to wait when you need to move.
