I am a fan of CTA's (recently added) train tracker that you can pull up on your phone and is displayed in some stations.

Not sure it's *needed* but it's nice.

The bus tracker, which came first, is far more necessary to me, since you have to wait outside, usually uncovered, for a bus sometimes for 20 minutes
