this is an extreme example, but it helped having a clue what was going on when heather had her emergency/unplanned c-section, even though a lot of stuff in the class wasn't relevant at that point. the feeling of having some stuff under my belt kept me from panicking a bit.

and getting the hospital tour, whether it's included with the class or something you do on your own, is also extremely helpful.
