depending what time of the Roman Empire they enter, I think they do that and

if it's a full Expendiatry Force they have medical supplies and equipment to extend the life of the Emperor they want to continue to run the empire. And then you get into the question of fore-knowledge. They know Nero will go batshit insane so do they eliminate him before he becomes a problem? Or co-opt him when he's in his full senatorial height of power and still sane...
