My father-in-law had a funny variation of this story.

He once asked his cousin, a woman, this question and she wouldn't talk to him for the rest of the month. Then, he gets a call from his cousin's wife that she had gone into labor and had a baby that morning. So, she had been offended that her cousin thought she was so fat she must have been pregnant when in reality, she was that, she was also pregnant and she was too stupid to know it.
