I think it's miles better than his last 2 (Red Rabbit and Teeth of the Tiger). I gave it a B overall.

the plot ends up being relatively low-key, which isn't too shabby given some of the other stuff that has gone down in his past books.

Basically, the timeline diverges sometime in the 80's. The place crash at the Capitol ends up with Ryan Sr as president; he has office for 5 years...and he retires to clear out so Robby Jackson can run. Robby gets shot by some Klansman and Ed Kealty (the guy Ryan replaced as VP for 5 minutes) wins the election since Ryan/Robby's side is decimated.

The book is preachy a tad up front, but it evens out in the 2nd half. We all know Clancy's politics over the years but the heavy-handedness of them was never this apparent. It does even out though.

All in all, it's not vintage Clancy, but it's miles better than Teeth of the Tiger and Red Rabbit. And he's got another one coming out in December that picks up from this point featuring the entire cast of Ding/Clark/Ryan Sr.

Clancy's gone the Cussler route of writing with partners so you can see the fun of when his partner is writing like Clancy and when it's Clancy himself.
