Would reading The Walking Dead comics ruin the show?

I want to get them for my gf for Christmas, she loves the show. She's worried that reading them would ruin the show a bit.
Responses:
Some stories are the same but most are different. To a larger point, it's a grim comic I would not recommend to anyone.

I don't think I made it that far. I quit when the two guys tried to rape the boy. That's not entertainment. That's a writer being exploitive. -- nm

but isn't that the nature of fiction to be exploitive (regardless of the threat) and I wasn't thirlled with it either. -- nm

No, it's the 24 style of serial where the purpose is to shock without purpose. That's why BSG is so far above. -- nm

it might certainly tell you where they are going with certain characters and expose some major upcoming plot points and happenings -- nm
