So, who wants to hear about condo board and management company issues? Because we've got a rash of them!

I have been unable to make a condo board meeting since I bought my unit, because I was always out of town when they were held. Oh, and there hadn't been one since May apparently. Anyway, two things happened yesterday. First, I discovered, joined, and read the Yahoo Group for the building (which was disheartening and concerning) and then attended the board meeting.
I knew there were some problems in the building, but didn't realize just how widespread some of them were:
- Water infiltration in some units. In some cases this has been going on for years
- Packages are being stolen from the lobby. Turns out this isn't new. It's been happening since at least March, is rampant, and is almost certainly being perpetrated by someone who lives in the building.
- The carpets in the building are ratty and have been supposed to replaced forever.
This doesn't include the break-in to the building in June, the graffiti on the front retail windows, or the day care that is moving in.
Or some of the snippy, bitchy people who seem to live in this building and only come out at board meetings and yahoo groups (I have *never* seen some of these people before).
Anyway, the board meeting's main purpose was to official fire our management company. It has been the management company's job to get quotes for and handle fixing the water issues, the carpets, security solutions, etc. But our management company never does anything. In fact, I've been trying to get a spare building key for four months and never got a response to my e-mails on the topic. Additionally, the management company double-charged our assessments last month and then messed up the refunds by not giving the payment fee back.
Anyway, I'm hopeful that the new management company will be as good as the board hopes they will be, but so far all we've heard is a sales pitch and we have to wait until the transition period is over before the new company takes over.
Two words: Ugh. Ownership.
