The big pizza chains all make versions of the New York pizza, but with things Americans like - more meat, more cheese, barbecue flavour, etc
While Chicago style pizza is its own thing - different dough in a deep-dish pie shape, thick toppings, etc. So it's no surprise that Chicagoans are proud of it, and they see it as distinctively Chicago.
