It needs 4 more Gigs of RAM (rule of thumb: 2 GB per core, and it's a quad core). 14" screen may be a little small for his/your needs.

If you want a desktop replacement, you want 15" screen or bigger. And it's bulky for a 14". While I like Toshiba laptops in general, this one seems somewhat underpowered for that price. The single L745 reviewed at Cnet was not at all liked, although that had a different generation AMD processor.
