quick sand is created by the condition of water coming up through the sand with enough force as to suspend the sand particles.
Because the sand has no friction against itself, you fall in rather than stand on it
HOWEVER, because the water (the solution actually) is denser than regular water because of the sand so you float really well (unless you are very dense like metal or such.
