What a great day for a drive in southern Ohio Amish country.

Took a ride to a couple Amish stores to finish shopping for Hanukkah gifts for a friend. I'd already picked up a couple of small things in northern Ohio Amish country over July 4th. Decided to continue with the theme. Picked up a couple more baskets (made by real Amish children, ages 9 & 11) and scored a free Amish calendar, too.
Also got some baked goods for self - a fresh-baked custard pie (still warm!), some fresh-made apple fritters (giant! and still warm!), a loaf of sour dough bread and a loaf of onion-dill rye.
Checked out some Amish furniture. This place had some of the best pieces I've seen. Beautiful stuff, and real wood, too! Also real pricey. *But* I did pick up one piece for only $10! It's a crate with a hinged lid. The labor alone had to cost more than $10 (at least in the non-Amish world). The wood is solid and sanded. It's stapled together but it's sturdy. I wanted to buy more than one because it was so cheap and looked so good. But the only thing I could think to use it for is to put a cat in it and take it outside on the porch. (The cats love to go out but I don't always want to deal with their leashes.) It's a good size for a cat to sprawl out in.
Took the highway out but took local roads back because it was such a beautiful day. Rolled down the windows and cranked up the volume. Possibly the last good day for doing that this year.
