there are 2 types of diabetic retinopathy. One type involves growth of and leakage from blood vessels behind the eyes. It's the kind that can cause blindness in diabetics.
All of the pushing that's done can burst the vessels, which obviously can result in sight issues. I was told long term temporary blindness was a very real concern.
As it stands now, I don't have the leaking vessels, just some hemmoraging (sp?) and swelling behind my eyes, but that can be fixed, from what I understand. I have not progressed to the point where I have the "bad" kind, so the worst that could happen post-pushing is excess swelling behind the retina. That is something that can be fixed.
