75% of our clients have been clients for a long time (like decades). the new clients we get basically because

we get an offer to bid (because someone suggested us) and my boss knows someone on the board.

then that person on the board suggests that the organization use our firm. etc.

the few we have gotten on open bids with no board members, we have lost at the end of our initial 3 year engagement, because they couldnt stand my boss and his process (quite a few have called me suggesting that if I ever took over the firm, they would come back).
