So we all know how inefficient govt bureaucracy can be. Let me reinforce that thought. (lyc)

I've been battling a bug for about a week. It didn't get really bad until Sunday. I called in sick Monday, Tuesday & yesterday (my head felt like someone was using a sledgehammer to get out of it). I'm feeling better today but not 100%. I would have liked to stay home (I have plenty of sick leave) but there's a rule that management can require a note from a doctor if you're out more than 3 days. I called my doctor yesterday, just in case. He doesn't have any openings until next week. So I went to work this morning. I do customer service and am often scheduled to be on the phone. Today I was on the phone. About 40 minutes into the day my throat starts hurting and my voice is going. 90 minutes into the day I went to my manager and asked if it was possible to be taken off the phone because I can't keep talking. She called the scheduler. The answer was no, because if I was shown in the system as being on inventory while our office was "all hands on deck" the powers that be in the main scheduling office would have a fit since there can be *no* veering from adherence to the schedule.
So I'm home. And if my voice is bad tomorrow I'll be home. Tomorrow it's a given that we'll be AHOD because some teams will be going out for their Christmas parties and we'll be short-staffed for phones.
Way back when, I mentioned that we have a huge backlog of paper cases yet the powers that be decided to furlough hundreds of us because of the mess Congress was making with the budget. Now that we're all back they've been offering overtime to get caught up. How much sense does it make to have me go home instead of staying to work on the backlog? That's right. None. Granted, one person won't get us caught up in a day, but still.
Your Federal govt at work, folks.
