He keeps updating status with the media. That may be because Fox News likes his news cycles or maybe because he likes the attention.

From a financial perspective, the first film was a disaster. They're accepting a loss in advance if they do another, but if I had $50 million to waste, I'd pay for a new Firefly movie. Maybe someone feels the same way about this.
