Is transit a big part of New Urbanism

I think it is (but maybe it's optional?). Transit seems to be the biggest problem in the burbs. With everyone attached to a car, there isn't much demand for transit so, where it exists, you have to wait an hour for a bus which is inconvenient. And the bus of course gets the stigma of 'being for poor people'.

Are there solutions to the transit issue that you have seen?
