It might be dumb rule, but it's not AA's rule. Take it up with your government.

It's always shut them off when door closes because you are going to push back and taxi.

"while we sat at the gate" makes me think it was longer. I have sat there for as much as 5-10 minutes beofre moving, with no special announcement. -- nm
