The nomenclature is sound -- it is a grilled cheese *and* bacon sandwich.

It is simply a more complex -- and far more delicious -- variation of the classic "ham and cheese" sandwich.
Responses:
Wouldn't it be a grilled cheese *with* bacon?

But the literature supports the position that meat supercedes embellishments, as in "ham and cheese" or "chicken salad".

On the other hand, it's subject to change if the meat is just an embellishment on the dish, rather than a fundamental component.

Excellent point. We must do studies to find the critical ratio. Let us submit a grant proposal to the FDA. -- nm

But you're not adding traces. Bacon becomes the main ingredient, relegating cheese to a supporting role! -- nm

I respectfully disagree. In this case, it seems that the grilled cheese was the intended dish, with the bacon merely being added for flavor. -- nm

Ah, but intention is subjective and therefore irrelevant. If you add a ground beef patty for flavor, is it not now a patty melt? -- nm

Ah, but a full patty's worth of ground beef would likely cross the 'main ingredient' threshold, thereby fundamentally changing the dish. -- nm

So our disagreement is in where the ratio lies, hence our government funded research proposal.

Yes, a Redmond unit of bacon is definitely far, far past the threshold.

Find the point the Bacon Cheeseburger is fine, but the Baconator is too much.
