I recognize the historic symbolism of Obama's election but isnt the media coverage of this getting just a little overboard?

Even Canadians are hugely following this. Why cant they follow our own politics with even half the enthusiasm of the US.
As said above, I understand the symbolism and everything that goes with Obama getting elected and I would have voted for him too, but hes not even in office yet and hes already being considered as a demi-god. He still has yet to do anything of note other then put a few competant Clinton era people up as his cabinet.
