Ugh, I've been fixing my parents computer since last night. I hate viruses. MSE didn't catch it and I had to reinstall Win7 and all their software

First time with installing Win 7. Not fun.

Unsure. Whatever it was, it was spoofing a HDD failure and throwing up boxes. It hid everything on the desktop and prevented taskmanager from loading

av fixes don't repair the damage left behind, probably all their ports/sockets are open

malwarebytes go rid of the problem, but the system was hosed so a reinstall was needed. there was probably an easier way but I dont use win7 so I'm

The best is still MSE, but even that will fail due to user error. They need to be more aware of how to dismiss
